Replace Scene in Video

Replace Scene in Video changes one selected part of an existing cut rather than rebuilding the whole sequence. Give the Pexo AI video agent the scene boundaries, the replacement footage or new-shot direction, and the picture and sound that should stay.

Video input

Upload the Video and Replacement Reference

Identify the scene to replace and add the new clip or shot direction.

Replacing a whole shot is different from changing only an object or background inside that shot.

What it is

Change One Shot, Keep the Sequence in View

To replace a scene in a video, first define where the existing scene starts and ends. The replacement may be supplied footage or a newly directed shot; the task is to put that material into the intended position in the sequence.

The neighboring shots matter too. Specify whether total duration, narration, music, and scene order must stay. If the new shot is longer or shorter, decide how the timing should change rather than assuming the edit will remain identical.

Scope

A Bounded Scene Range

Use timestamps and a description to distinguish the target scene from similar shots.

Existing Clip or New Direction

Supply the new footage or explain the subject, action, setting, and framing you need.

Check how the replacement enters and leaves the surrounding sequence.

Agent decisions

Decisions Behind a Clean Scene Replacement

A scene change is complete only when its surrounding sequence still makes sense.

01 / Range Selection

Range Selection

Identify the whole scene or shot to remove, avoiding partial frames or unintended neighboring material.

In this six-second editing example, only slot B is selected. The opening and closing shots remain the anchors for reviewing the replacement.

02 / Replacement Direction

Replacement Direction

Resolve whether the new scene comes from supplied footage or requires a separately directed shot.

The alternate clip shows the same picnic from above. It changes the middle view while keeping the scene, objects, and overall palette related.

03 / Timing and Audio Scope

Timing and Audio Scope

Define the replacement’s place in the cut and which narration, music, and sound should continue.

The selected range belongs to the assembled example, not the original stock file. Audio instructions are written separately; these preview edits play silently.

04 / Boundary Review

Boundary Review

Inspect cuts, visual continuity, subtitles, and audio at the exact points where the new scene joins the old sequence.

Watch both joins around the new middle shot. A useful review checks the passage into and out of the replacement, alongside the unchanged opening and closing.

Mark the Scene to Remove

Upload the source and identify start and end points. When the video has multiple shots, Split Video can separate the intended section from the surrounding material.

Define the Replacement and Timing

Provide the new clip or describe the new shot. State whether to keep the original slot length, retain the sound underneath, or allow a timing change. Use Trim Video when a supplied replacement needs a shorter excerpt.

Review the Reassembled Sequence

Check the entry cut, exit cut, audio continuity, and any captions that span the boundary. Merge Videos assembles approved segments; watch the whole passage before accepting the new scene.

Common questions

Replace Scene in Video FAQ

How do I identify the scene I want to replace?

Give a start and end time plus a short description, such as “the package close-up after the opening.” A description helps distinguish similar shots when timing alone is ambiguous.

Can I provide my own replacement footage?

Yes. Add the clip and say which part should be used. Explain whether it should fill the existing time slot or whether the surrounding edit may shift.

What if I need a newly generated scene?

Describe the new shot’s subject, action, setting, camera, and continuity needs. Review the new shot as well as its position in the sequence; generation does not guarantee an exact match to adjacent footage.

Will the music and dialogue stay the same?

State what should stay and whether the replacement clip’s own audio should be used. Do not assume a picture replacement also defines the sound treatment. Review sync and transitions in the edited result.

Does this replace just the background or an object?

No. This page is about replacing a bounded scene in the sequence. Changing an element within the same moving shot is a different editing request and needs its own feasibility and preservation check.
